Topic: George Washington and Slavery. I’ve been told that when Jerry Falwell died, they left his desk at Liberty University as they found it…and there on the desk is a copy of the big, thick book, George Washington’s Sacred Fire by Dr. Peter Lillback (president of Westminster Theological Seminary) and Jerry Newcombe. The book documents beyond a reasonable doubt that our first president was a committed 18th Anglican, and all that that entails. In an on-going series, the two authors discuss Washington and his faith. In this particular segment, the question on the table is actually beyond George Washington himself—to the other founders and the issue of slavery. Many of the founders were adamantly opposed to slavery and worked for its abolition. Obviously, others did not agree.  www.providenceforum.org
