Here’s an August 28, 2025 email from Robert Goodman, Florida Faith Director of Citizens Defending Freedom, to Jerry Newcombe, providing a timeline on attempts by some leftist school authorities to block distribution of pocket Constitutions in some schools in Texas around Constitution Day (September 17), 2023.
Robert Goodman wrote:
Here’s a quick timeline of what happened with the pocket Constitution situation in Texas:
Leander ISD Pocket Constitutions
- Early September 2023: The 917 Society donated 17,000 pocket Constitutions to Williamson County schools. Citizens Defending Freedom (CDF) and Moms for Liberty helped distribute them.
- Sept 10: Volunteers tried giving the Constitutions to 8th graders at Leander ISD.
- Sept 14: LISD initially rejected over 4,000 copies, claiming they violated district neutrality.
- Sept 15: CDF attorney, and founder of Remnant Law, Jonathan Hullihan sent a letter to the superintendent citing First Amendment and Texas law violations.
- Later Sept 15: LISD reversed its decision after consulting legal counsel; the Constitutions were approved for student distribution.
- Sept 17: Distribution completed in time for Constitution Day and Celebrate Freedom Week.
Jonathan called it a huge victory for free speech and civic education.
