Vocal Point-Don Feder
Topic: The Federal Deficit.
In his Farewell Address, George Washington, the father of our country said we should avoid, “the accumulation of debt, not only by shunning occasions of expense, but by vigorous exertion in time of peace to discharge the debts which unavoidable wars may have occasioned.” Well, fast foreword to today, and we see that the federal government is borrowing way too much. The federal deficit just recently passed the $40 trillion mark. Sometimes, we don’t grasp just how big a trillion dollars is. So consider this: “If I owed you $100 and said I’d pay you in a million seconds, when would I pay you? In 12 days. If I owed you $100 and said I’d pay you in a billion seconds, when would I pay you? In 32 years. But if I owed you $100 and said I’d pay you in a trillion seconds, when would I pay you? In 32,000 years.” Don Feder, a conservative columnist who writes for the Washington Times, recently wrote about the national debt and called it a “ticking time bomb.” Don Feder joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss this issue.
