Founding fathers-Deists? Men of the Enlightenment? Christians?

The founding fathers of America have sometimes been lumped into the category of Deists and as Men of the Enlightenment. But it should be noted that there are some prominent Christian thinkers who are categorized as “Men of the Enlightenment,” including Montesquieu, John Locke, and Sir William Blackstone. Those “Enlightenment thinkers” were of great importance to the founding fathers (than the skeptical types, such as Hume, Voltaire or Rousseau). Dr. Peter Lillback, founder and president of Providence Forum, co-wrote a book with Jerry Newcombe on the faith of George Washington, George Washington’s Sacred Fire. Together, Dr. Lillback and Dr. Newcombe have a series of conversations on George Washington and on the role of faith in the founding of America. In this episode, Dr. Peter Lillback joins Jerry Newcombe on Vocal Point to discuss the founding fathers and Deism and the Enlightenment. www.providenceforum.org
