Vocal Point-Glenn Lutjens
Topic: Social Devices and Our Children.
“We the people” of the Constitution includes a commitment to “our posterity.” It sounds like a cliché, but children are indeed our future. In the last generation or so, we see the rise of social devices, especially smart phones, and their impact on our children. Is it positive? Is it negative? A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, reports that 15 percent of kids and teens are on smart devices for at least 9 hours a day. That’s 9 hours a day. A recent headline summarizes this study this way: “Effects of Young People’s Exorbitant Smart-Device Use Akin to Alcoholism.” Glenn Lutjens, a licensed marriage and family therapist with over 30 years of experience on the Focus on the Family counseling team, joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss the dangers to children of excessive use of social devices. www.focusonthefamily.com
