Vocal Point-Jack Wurfl
Topic: Opportunities in America, One Immigrant’s Odyssey.
It is amazing to see many Americans today, especially young ones, denigrate this country and speak badly of it. Furthermore, many Americans have a lack of a working knowledge of history, not just American history but of things like the Holocaust. One American, who survived the Holocaust and found new life in this country, has a strong appreciation of the opportunities available here. Jochen “Jack: Wurfl of Austria grew up with a Catholic father and a Jewish mother. He had to hide his Jewish lineage to survive. He recalls, “I was 12 when I heard on the BBC that the Allied troops had landed in Normandy. Finally, the Americans, the British and the Allies were coming, to put an end to Hitler and this terrible genocide.” Ten years later, Wurfl would return to the beaches of France to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the D-Day landings. Jack Wurfl joins Jerry Newcombe to discuss his odyssey and his appreciation of America. He has written an autobiography, My Two Lives. Click here to watch a clip of Wurfl’s powerful D-Day memories.
