America is in great need of revival. The churches helped settle and found America. But now, 250 years later, are young people leaving the church in droves? Christian communicator Adam McManus writes:
“First, the bad news.
According to research from the Barna Group:
· 1 in 9 young people who grow up with a Christian background abandon their childhood faith. They’ve been dubbed The Prodigals.
· 4 in 10 young Christians wander away from the institutional church. Dubbed The Nomads, they still call themselves Christians, but they are far less active in church than they were during high school.
· 2 in 10 young Christians feel lost between the “church culture” and the society they feel called to influence at college or in the workforce. Dubbed The Exiles, they say, “I want to find a way to follow Jesus that connects with the world I live in.”
Now the good news!
· 1 in 10 young Christians are Resilient Disciples. Barna says, “In spite of the tensions they feel between church and everyday life, they keep showing up.”And the number of Resilient Disciples is trending upwards.
15-year-old Jake Soltis in Cleveland, Ohio is one such Resilient Disciple. And the key to raising a Resilient Disciple is the earnest prayer of a father.” Joe Soltis (father) and Jake Soltis (his 15-year-old son join Jerry Newcombe to discuss following Jesus and praying for the nation. www.prayerheart.org
