The United States of America was ultimately founded by Christians of different denominations seeking religious freedom. The first freedom listed in the first 10 amendments to the Constitution, that is, the Bill of Rights, is religious freedom. America is sensitive to the issue of religious freedom, even in other places of the world where it can be dangerous to be a Christian. Troy Miller, the president of the National Religious Broadcasters (the NRB) wrote recently: “Religious persecution isn’t just a ‘Christian issue.’ It’s a human-rights crisis that should pierce the heart of anyone who cares about justice and human dignity.
