The early charters of America reference God and the Christian faith. For example, in the Mayflower Compact, the Pilgrims state that they came “for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith.” The founders said our rights come from God in our national birth certificate, the Declaration of Independence. The first right listed in the American Bill of Rights is freedom of religion. In 1892, in the Trinity decision, the Supreme Court declared, “this is a Christian nation.” So how and when did America go so secular?
