America’s motto is “In God We Trust,” and it’s been that way since 1956. I remember seeing a sign in an ice cream shop as a kid that said, “In God We Trust…All others pay cash.” Ronald Reagan said that America is one nation under God, but if we ever forget that, we’ll be “a nation gone under.” Is America one nation under God and does it matter? Does it matter that 60 years ago this summer, the Supreme Court first ruled against school prayer in the Engel v. Vitale decision?
